He is Me Institute Thanks the Trefler Foundation

He is Me Institute is grateful to announce that it has received a $30,000 grant from the Trefler Foundation.  We are proud that Trefler Foundation is investing in our mission to bring more Black men into teaching . . . investing in the proven benefits they bring to the school experiences of Black boys. The Trefler Foundation said it “is proud to support He Is Me's innovative, hands-on work serving the unique academic and social-emotional needs of Black youth and young adults.”

Funds will support our I AM KING after-school mentoring program where boys of color are mentored by Black college men who are exploring a career in teaching. The boys gain social-emotional learning skills, along with what may be their first ever experience of being taught by a Black man. The college men gain what may be their very first authentic teaching experience. Funds will also support the Reclaiming Our Identities course for young Black men who want to learn about the history and the current state of education equity through the lens of Black male identity. I AM KING and Reclaiming Our Identities are two of He is Me’s signature programs.
