He is Me Institute empowers Black men to obtain and retain careers in education.

From College to Classroom.

He is Me Institute empowers Black men to obtain and retain careers in education. We give Black males the opportunity to discover that they can teach, want to teach, and need to teach during our yearlong teaching and mentoring fellowship.

The Problem

Only 23% of Black men with education degrees find themselves teaching in the classroom. They face many obstacles in obtaining and retaining teaching jobs.

The Solution

When Black boys are matched with a Black teacher, they are 39% more likely to complete high school. With more effective Black male teachers in front of kids, we can see improved achievement, especially for Black boys.

The Opportunity

Only 2% of teachers identify as Black men. Many of those teachers say that authentic experiences are a leading factor in why the decided to teach. We have the chance to cultivate an environment for Black men to thrive as educators.
